What is melanochromocytoma?

Melanochromocytoma is a rare type of tumor that arises from chromaffin cells in the adrenal medulla or sympathetic ganglia, characterized by the presence of melanin within the tumor cells. These tumors can produce catecholamines, leading to symptoms such as hypertension and palpitations. Due to its rarity, melanochromocytoma may be challenging to diagnose and often requires imaging studies and histopathological examination for confirmation. Treatment typically involves surgical resection of the tumor.
