Ruth of the Old Testament, the wife of Boaz, is celebrated as a Saint by the Catholic Church. What is often forgotten by Catholics is that those just souls of the Old Testament that went to heaven upon its gates being opened by Our Lord were saved by their belief in Christ, whom they only knew in their lives as the promised redeemer to come. Hence, all people, Old and New Testament, who have ultimately succeeded in attaining heaven have been saved by faith in Christ and are His saints.
Therefore, any other saint that has come up through the ages has then probably been given the name Ruth from Ruth of the Old Testament.
