What would happen if you took a hawk out of a food chain?

If you took the hawk out of the food chain, the animals that the hawk preys on would become over populated. This would mean that the animals and plants that the hawk's prey eats, would be used up. The prey animals such as the Blue bird would begin to go hungry. The delicate balance of nature would be thrown off.
