What is food science for Science Olympiad?

Food science is a science olympiad event that tests the students knowledge of the different processes that are involved with food as well as what happens with the variety of ingredients. For example, the students should be able to look at a cake that was not baked properly (event judges botched the recipe on purpose) and know exactly what happened. Such as too much sugar or not enough egg.
