People did many of the same things in Shakespeare's time as they do now and have always done: grow up, learn things, get jobs, fall in love, make babies, get sick, and die. They went to church, and entertained themselves when they weren't working. They liked a good story. While we might focus on what they didn't have, what they did was not too different from what people have always done, which is why Shakespeare's plays still make sense to us.
