Compare and contrast carnation and a rose?

Both carnations and roses are in temperate gardens. Both are known for their smell. Both are used by florists and women appreciate them in bouquets from those who love them. Blue is a difficult color to obtain unless the flower is dyed. Both the rose and the carnation have associations with the Virgin Mary.

Carnations smell more spicy than sweet roses. Carnations last longer in bouquets. Roses have thorns and carnations do not.
