Nogal: Walnut tree

Nuez: Walnut fruit.

I realize very well how frustrating this answer is. My Spanish teacher and I, here in Guadalajara, México just discussed this for the past 30 minutes. Evidently, Walnuts are just called "nuez" (nuts) while every other type of nut either has to be clarified (i.e.: nuez de la India, nuez moscada), or it may simply have a different name (i.e.: piñon, pistache, avellana, castaña, almendras, cacahuate). !Saludos!
