The first film adaptation of "The Three Musketeers" was made in 1903. In this silent film, the roles of the three musketeers were played by actors who portrayed the characters in a straightforward manner typical of early cinema. However, one of the most notable adaptations came later, in 1973, where Michael York played d'Artagnan and the three musketeers were portrayed by Oliver Reed, Frank Finlay, and Richard Chamberlain.
