What is the best way to keep nail polish from chipping?

Hey. I paint my nails all the time, you could say its a hobby! The way to stop it chipping is to put 2+ layers on it with the very top layer a clear top coat. I also paint my nails constantly and found that putting on 2 layers with a top coat works well, but even better is to run the newly painted nails under cold water just as the nails are about to be completely dry!
