What is a discogram?

A discogram (discography) is a diagnostic tool for your surgeon used to diagnose or pinpoint the area causing pain in your back. A discogram, or discography is a pre-surgical diagnostic tool, where the injection of local anesthetic and dye is injected into the disc. Discography is used to determine which disk level(s) is painful, and is usually used a precursor to surgery. A minimum of two disks will are injected. If you have x-ray findings of disk problems at many levels you may need more disks injected.
