I am familiar with the book and the l959 movie with Arlene Dahl. Ok the movie had maybe too much incidental comedy that was not part of the plot. There were sight gags with a Bagpipe Band parading around the lost-in-thought scientist type, and a few others. Pat Boone was miscast as the explorer"s aide. There was no reason for songs such as heart in the highlands. Other than that, for Verne, relatively little gadgetry was used and the Dinosaurs seemed plausible. The only thing I really did not like about the movie was the rather unwarranted tack-on of songs and sight-gags more redolent of a musical comedy than a Science Fiction drama. Plot line was inherently slow-paced ( specialized flashlights and breathing masks- the latter used sparingly) were the only gadgets- unless you count camping equipment, for it"s type, fine . suspense was handled well I kept guessing- How are they going to get out of caverns? well the answer will suprise you. There is some humor in the escape method- and many a movie actress would approve. Good film.
