Chevy 350 can mechanical fuel pump put gas in oil but still be working ok?

I had a 390 fe with a mechanical fuel pump and it was putting gas in my oil I had no white blue or black smoke . I put a holley blue on it and it ran fine lol that after rebuilding my holley 4bbl bad rings can do the same or running to lean goodluck
