How is news gathered?

Back before the age of computers and the internet, information was gathered by Word of mouth. This sometimes made the information gathered highly unreliable and biased. However, with today's technology, personal interviews are becoming fewer and fewer. More reporters are drifting toward e-mail interviews for quotes although vocal interviews still are a common event. The information gathered in the news can come from data already collected off the web, or again by Word of mouth if there is nothing on the web.
