- Herbal Extracts are a bit like herbal infusions (such as herbal teas), but they use alcohol instead of or as well as water.
- They are made by steeping herbs in water and alcohol (often Vodka, however traditionally Wine was used) for some period of time, before removal of the plant matter.
- Herbal extracts sold often have information on the ratio of herb to liquid (alcohol and water)
- It is often the case that less dried herb is required than if it were fresh.
- They can be used for alternative medicine, cooking and as supplements
- Due to the use of alcohol in their creation, herbal extracts / tinctures tend to last longer than infusions
