What is gonorrhea and what parts of the body can it affect?

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It primarily affects the genital tract, including the urethra, cervix, and rectum, but can also infect the throat (pharynx) and, in rare cases, the eyes and joints. If left untreated, gonorrhea can lead to serious health complications, including infertility and increased susceptibility to other infections.
