In Microsoft Word you can go into the insert equation link, and click insert new equation.

While you are in the new equation box, at the top of the screen in the tool bar section you can insert all mathematical symbols.

If you have Microsoft 2007, it's a little different...

At the top there is an 'insert' link, click it and to the right side of the bar when it opens there is a pi sign and a ohm sign (π and Ω) click on the pi sign (π) and right at the bottom underneath the example equations are two options, click on insert new equation and once you insert it you can write the equation, to insert thing like multiplication signs and equal signs, in the design link at the top while you are writing your equation there are lots of different mathematical symbols to choose from.

:) Hope this helps!!
