The stuff of legend - Apple founder Steve Jobs purchased Pixar (then known as the Graphics Group, one third of LucasFilm's Computer Division), from George Lucas in 1986. He paid $5 million to Lucas, and put $5 million into the company.

Pixar was originally an imaging computer company - it wasn't until John Lassetter, then just an employee, began doing animations that the company found its true destiny (and the fact the imaging computer never sold well).

To say Jobs got a return on his investment is an understatement; Pixar Animation StudiOS was purchased by Disney in 2006 for $7.4 Billion dollars, and the company is the undisputed leader in animation features, having won 25 Academy Awards (including Best Picture for UP), and 205 awards out of 211 nominations for their work over the years.
