Specifically, it is possible to get the lowest price possible - nothing - if one receives a poinsettia plant as a gift or if one knows someone who has a poinsettia plant. Poinsettias are marketed as annuals whose life span basically begins and ends with the Christmas holidays. But in their native southwestern Mexican environment, they are perennial shrubs whose lives span at least a couple of years.

Poinsettias can reproduce by seed or by vegetative cutting. Cuttings easily are done. All that is needed is a healthy poinsettia.
