Hmmm, I've done the plugs on my 2000 E-250 van a couple times and not experienced difficulty other than dealing with all the individual coils. Remove the engine doghouse cover from the passenger compartment. The number 8 plug is the rear plug on the left (driver's side) bank of the engine.
The spark plugs sit basically vertical on the cylinder head and are recessed deep into a cavity. Find release the wiring connection to the spark plug coil on the number 8 cylinder then remove the small screw, takes a small socket, that holds the coil to the plug in place. Be careful to not lose the spring inside the coil when you remove it from the plug. Use a standard deep well spark plug socket to remove the spark plug. Coat a new plug with high temperature anti-seize compound, lightly, and install the plug securely. I'd replace the coil and boot assembly when putting it back in place. Make sure the boot/spring seat when installing the coil. Reconnect the wire to the coil. Start and make sure engine is OK. Replace the engine cover.
