The cytokine that primarily raises body temperature during fever is interleukin-1 (IL-1). It acts on the hypothalamus, triggering the production of prostaglandins, which in turn induce fever. Other cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), also contribute to this process, but IL-1 is a key mediator in the initiation of fever.
