What was the book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest about?

A man who does not want to go to prison pretends to be mentally ill in the hope that he can go to and stay in, a mentally health institution. During his stay, the film viewer questions the system that was in place during the mid 19th century in terms of the accomodition of mentally ill patients in mental health institutions.
