If you have a hole in your transmission hose will that cause your car to not move?

I can answer this one first hand. I have a 2011 Kia Forte and yesterday as I was pulling into my driveway it lost all power. After looking under the hood to see what was wrong, I noticed that there was Transmission Fluid everywhere. I had the car towed on a roll back wrecker to the dealer. There were two small holes in the line and all the fluid had sprayed out. No light came on in the dash to let me know there was a problem. The mechanic that was looking at my car said that it looked like the line had possibly been bitten by a critter. I don't believe that is the issue. Number one, I don't think mice or such like oil based items, number two.. wouldn't there be gnawing marks not just two little puncture holes?
