How does a ladybug smell?

The release of a stress-induced, unpleasant-smelling, yellow-colored liquid is the reason why lady bugs smell when they are killed. Orange, red, and yellow body colors in fact often warn potential predators of unpleasant odors and tastes in the event of a lady bug being subjected to violence or treated as a food source or a nuisance.
