Cyril Basset was awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) for his bravery during World War I at the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium on 4 October 1917. He displayed remarkable courage and leadership in rescuing wounded soldiers under heavy enemy fire. His actions not only saved lives but also exemplified the highest standards of military valor. Basset received the VC from King George V during a ceremony in 1918.
