The Flower by Alice Walker is about the character Myop. She is observant of the things around her, especially plants and animals. It is revealed that her family are sharecroppers. She steps on a dead body and notices the rotting noose around the body's neck. She puts the flowers she picked on her walk over the body. The story is about a young child's witnessing the aftermath of a lynching.
