"Straightening out" crocheting is known as blocking. Blocking is done by pinning the crocheted piece onto an ironing board in the desired shape. An iron is then used to press the yarn into that shape. It is important to be aware of the type of yarn that is being blocked. Some synthetic yarns may melt under high heat. Wool, on the other hand, may felt if too much steam is used.
