Baby reptiles and baby birds are two existing examples of animals alive today that come from eggs like the dinosaurs did.

When baby bird hatch they are pretty puny looking. They can't fend for themselves and can't even move around easily. They have to be taken care of by the parents. However in a few hours they are up and about - think of how quickly baby chicks are able to look for food after hatching. Many however retain their baby fuzz for several days or weeks until they are fully fledged (have feathers)

Baby reptiles are even more ready to go after hatching. Alligators and turtles both emerge from their eggs, looking like tiny adults, and head off for the water ready to find food, hide and defend themselves.Dinosaurs were probably more like reptiles than birds.

Baby dinosaurs looked like tiny adult dinosaurs. They were probably ready to fend for themselves shortly after hatching.
