Nosocomial infections (also known as Healthcare-Associated Infections ~ HAI) are those which are contracted as a result of treatment in a hospital or hospital-like setting, such as a nursing home, surgical center, or rehabilitation center. Infections are considered nosocomial if they first appear 48 hours or more after a hospital admission or treatment and/or admission to another type of care facility.
