Assuming you're running Windows; look in the Device Manager (obtained on the dialog box found by Right clicking My Computer and choosing Properties). Check on Network Adaptors to see if the device driver is installed and if it is working properly. Assuming it is, then look in the active task bar for the Wireless network management and see if any Wi-Fi networks are visible.
