How did the cretacious period begin?

The Cretaceous Period began approximately 145 million years ago, following the Jurassic Period. It marked a significant geological time frame characterized by the breakup of the supercontinent Pangaea, leading to the formation of new ocean basins and continental configurations. This period saw a warm climate, diverse ecosystems, and the dominance of dinosaurs, as well as the emergence of flowering plants.
