What does pearls of price in Medieval literature mean?

The term is "Pearl of Great Price." It refers to heavenly salvation.

It comes from The Bible, Matthew 13:45-46, "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man seeking goodly pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it."
