Who discovered the red back spider?

I was watching a video on a very helpful website and still not sure if it was true but the guy said it was on a dock near a boat. so the great Aussie red back might be an import. and based on the research that I have done tonight it is possible that it might be from america seeing as it has a close relative the back widow spider.
