A clown (traditional) will use props which enhance the funny story being portraid (I do not include clothing and face makeup which is a registered design and unique to each clown) . Example - The Painter - buckets of "slush" (ready made foam) used to look like paint or wallpaper paste which can be thrown, poured over another clown , typed in to the trousers to cause the garment to inflate then is pressed very hard to make the slush squirt out of the top or through the legs, large soft toy type hammers for bumping on the head. Mini bycycles, trick ladders that can collaps when switch by the clown.
Ballons for ballon art to pass around the audience , shreded coloured paaper in buckets which initates what in a buck - used to throw in to the audience to make them jump.
Water is a used alot as it does not cause injury and can be coloured to make it look like paint etc - sugar glass pottles for smashing over the head (rearly used now because of health and safety)
A good clown can use ANYTHING in their environment - its about the visual joke and the interaction with the prop that can be funny
