Bacon's Rebellion, which occurred in 1676 in Virginia, convinced wealthy planters to shift their strategies regarding labor and governance. In the wake of the rebellion, they became increasingly wary of poor white and black laborers uniting against them. To prevent future uprisings, they began to invest more heavily in African slave labor, which they believed would create a more controlled and subservient workforce. Additionally, they sought to strengthen their political power and reduce tensions with Native Americans by offering land concessions to white settlers.
