Why is Rossini famous?

Gioachino Rossini 29th February 1792 - 13th November 1868. His fame is mainly based on his operas, especially Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Cenerentola and Guillaume Tell. In his time he was the most popular Opera composer in history. Il barbiere di Siviglia was the first Italian opera ever presented in the United States.
