There three types are:

  • Descriptive gestures, such as those using the hands and arms to indicate height, width, shape, moments in time etc
  • Emphatic gestures, e.g. using the hands to stress a point (strikes rostrum with clenched fist!) etc
  • Gestures conveying emotion, e.g. shrugging the shoulders; using facial expressions to convey concern, hatred, anger, curiousity, surprise (use the eyes and eyebrows for this one!); joy, sadness, (using mouth and other facial muscles, plus the eyelids!) etc
