I am considering moving into an apartment with a friend of mine. I own handgun (I am legally allowed to own one) which will be locked up except for when I'm cleaning it I will be the only one with the code to the safe. My friend does have a domestic violence charge, its a trumped up be charge, but its there. My question is , with his charge an I still legally allowed to keep the firearm in the apartment?

Answer- so long as the friend does not have access to the firearm (it is secured, they do not have combination) then neither you nor the friend is in violation of Federal law. And next time, start a new question- you posted in an answer section.
