having had a Jeep xj before and just buying one recently and the most recent has the same symptoms as did the old one honestly it could be a number of things from throttle position sensor going bad or is bad to trany issues in that gear or it could be a vacume issue buy a manual or find a place to download one and cross check all your systems that make the thing run their is usually a symptoms sections and what to check in them.
my 89 Cherokee did the same thing during Exceleration from stops and it was the egr valve quick easy change 2 bolts inexpensive it deals with air fuel mixture try unpluging the vacume hose that goes to it , it should stop acting up if that's whats wrong, good luck
