With 20yrs experience as a retail jeweller these are some points I look for in a wholesaler: 1. A good product. It sounds obvious but it's a competitive market and your product needs something different from the rest. 2. Well designed packaging and, ideally, some point of sale material. If you're a designer some cards that we can hand out with your short bio, where you trained, prizes and awards won, where you get your inspiration 3. Realistic delivery times - don't promise what you can't deliver. 4. If you employ a sales team, ensure they have sufficient knowledge of the product 5. Don't compete with the retailer. Decide what you want to be: a retailer or a wholesaler. Wholesalers who also want to retail are not popular in my view. 6. Give good retailer support for their website sales, eg. supply high quality images for website use. 7. And last, but certainly not least, offer discounts for prompt payment, think about extra deals or discounts for larger orders.
