When did Mal Evans die?

Mal Evans was shot to death through the door of his Los Angeles apartment, after an argument with his girlfriend, by LAPD officers who were convinced Evans was dangerous, since he "had a gun". (The "gun" turned out to be a BB pistol, and LAPD admitted "it was all a mistake".)
