Acid reflux disease, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), most commonly affects adults, particularly those who are overweight or obese, as excess weight can increase abdominal pressure. Additionally, pregnant women are also at higher risk due to hormonal changes and physical pressure on the stomach. Other contributing factors include age, smoking, and the consumption of certain foods and beverages that can trigger symptoms. Children can experience acid reflux as well, though it is less common than in adults.
