Why are the songs Autumn in New York and Moonlight in Vermont so similar?

Many songs are similar to one another. The similarity of the song titles and lines lend themselves to similarity. Songwriters are consciously or unconsciously affected by the work of other songwriters. That the songs are so similar is not shocking - a bit unusual, but not shocking.
