250,000 miles is very common. I have seen cars with 400,000. I am currently driving a 1997 with 205,000 daily on a 70 mile commute. Keep the oil changed and use quality oil and filters. I use Mobil full synthetic. If you are buying a used car check the tailpipe for oil and soot. If it is covered in oil pass on the car.
