Who invented barbwire?

Michael Kelly's patent in 1868 may name him as the inventor, yet there
are samples that predate 1868. Modern barbed wire's origin is
generally given to Joseph Glidden of DeKalb, Illinois based on US
Patent number 157,124 on 24 November 1874.
