Hyenas primarily inhabit savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands in Africa, although some species, like the spotted hyena, can also be found in mountainous regions and near human settlements. They are opportunistic scavengers and skilled hunters, often feeding on carrion, small to medium-sized mammals, and occasionally larger prey. Hyenas live in social groups called clans, which help them in hunting and defending their territory. Their adaptability in various environments allows them to thrive in diverse ecosystems.
