Is it bad to dye and highlight hair all in one day?

I didnt have my hair higlighted but i had blonde chunks put in and later on in the day i had the hair around the blonde dyed black/brown which actually looks quite nice.

My hair isn't damaged but if you put the dye over the highlights it should be fine as well.
