To quote a somewhat famous piercer, JC Potts, "saying surgical or surgical stainless is like saying space-age plastic." Most steel used in a medical setting is 316L stainless or 316LVM ASTM F-138 Implant Grade, which is what most proper steel body jewelry is made of as well. If the jewelry is being promoted as "surgical" or "surgical stainless," I would be wary of it until I knew for sure it was one of the above types, as it could very well be made of lower quality steel and simply be marketed with flashy sounding titles to lure in the uneducated.
