What is the main reason why Atlantic sturgeon is endangered?

They are hunted (fished, caught) due to the value of meat and eggs (caviar - delicacy selling for more than $100 or more per ounce), and products that can be produced from their skin (clothing, bookbindings.) Sturgeons are considered as a cash crop second to lobsters.
