Tree kangaroos typically give birth in a secure, sheltered location, such as a tree hollow or a dense foliage area that provides protection from predators. After a gestation period of about 30 to 40 days, the tiny, underdeveloped joey crawls into the mother's pouch, where it continues to develop and gain strength. The pouch provides a safe environment for the joey as it grows and begins to explore the world outside.
