Why does the RSPCA think it is cruel to put chickens in cages?

The spca thinks it is cruel to put too many chickens in too small an area or to use too small a cage per bird. Animals require a certain amount of space to live a healthy and happy life. If the space is too small the birds become diseased and there is a lot of unsociable behaviour such as picking and cannibalism.
